I 1st used this blade when it came out in 1996, amazing blade! I stopped using after the plastic ball came out, and have been looking for a good replacement carbon blade for over 10 years, timo boll alc, innerforce layer alc, viscaria, Jang jike zlc, tiago apolonia zlc, and a few more, after more than 10 years of testing carbon blades, I have came back to this blade, all it needed was harder faster rubbers, amazing, I have a 2000 rating, if only I had stuck with this blade my level would have increased way higher and faster, I noticed complaints about it's "small handle" which is amusing because that's a style characteristic! I'm 6' tall and wear large gloves, I love this handle because it allows a loose grip, a loose grip which is essential for that relaxed moment before you tighten the grip and explode through the ball, it allows that "whip affect" as apposed to a snug grip that doesnt allow that looser grip, snug puts more stress on the wrist!!! You can not go wrong with this blade if you like looping and good placement, it was used by the man who made the chiquita popular, the "chiquita", it is used by all the top players today!!

This is a soft and nice feel blade.
Ive used Bty Viscaria, Stiga clipper wood, Avalox BT777, all fast blade.
Eventually wanted to try a softer and better control blade. Then decided to go for Petr korbel. At fist point holding the blade, the handle kinda feel differrent from Viscaria/ Clipper wood which is more full. Korbel handle feel more like avalox BT777 or even P700 feel. Thinner and i like it better. (im using Flared handle). The first glance on the blade, what i could say is the classic. 5 ply consist of Limba-Limba-Ayous-Limba-Limba. Initial thought of this blade is its soft, comfortable with feeling the ball. DHS TG 3 neo on forehand and Xiom Sigma Europe I as backhand. Tested the blade for few session. What ive got is as shown. Serving : The serve of this blade is real spinny and good. No matter downspin or sidespin or topspin, it is very easy to get use to it and even "feel" the ball much more compared to harder and faster blade. With proper technique and contact point of the ball, the dwell time is significantly longer than some other blade. The combination of the wood structure make serving feels good. Topspin and counter topspin : The trajectory throw angle of the blade is higher than i expected. The forehand and backhand looping is very consistence. With proper skills and posture, the looping is great. However, some more power is needed in order to loop far from table. The power of the blade is kind of medium. While in term of short/ touch play, the blade if combined with the proper rubber, gives a very comfortable feel despite its soft and flex characteristic. The return will be consistence, not too high nor low. Giving the good consistency for a player to master and brush the skills.
Overall,in current 40+ plastic ball modern gameplay, i still do feel this blade is good for amateur player. If you're kind of lost on which blade to get, hesitating what you really want, you could try this blade for the good feeling and looping.

This is simply the best OFFENSIVE blade. I have been playing for over 10 years trying simply everything (Tamca 5000, ALC, ZLC, ZLF, hinoki etc) This blade will make you better player. Has power, great control, touch and feel. Plays well with fast low throw rubbers.
It is also affordable. If you want the best quality Korbel, find an old one with metal tag. They simply play better than all the modern ones and they have bigger more comfortable FL handle then current.

Guys, this blade (made in Japan version) is pure magic. I'm a low intermediate, both wings looper (fh and bh). I have been using Viscaria for 2 years with a lot of satisfaction. Viscaria is also an exceptional blade, fast with great feeling and control. After an injury, my legs are slower and if you're out of position Viscaria doesn't forgive that much. Thus, I was looking for something more forgiving. I've always been told about the magical of this blade, speed with great control and feeling: recently a good tt coach suggested me to try it, and given the injury, finally I went for it. I was looking for something only a tad slower than Viscaria but with more control and feeling: Korbel delivers!!!

Both fh and bh loops are great but Viscaria has an edge about fast bh plain shots (slightly faster) and bh opens against backspin (slightly more powerful and precise). Nevertheless, you exchange the great precision and power of Viscaria with something only slightly less precise and powerful but with a bigger amount of control, feeling and consistency. The spin is on par with Viscaria. I have a viscaria with T05/T64 and I got this blade with the same setup because I wanted more control and to see the difference again in feeling. After playing for 3 hours on this setup, here are a few big features I could see. The blade is slower and has more dwell as expected, but I did not have to make much adjustment on my racket angle for loops. Since it's wood, it's a lot easier to get more spin on loops, and it's MUCH more forgiving on close range loops and flips, which I really enjoyed since I tend to player closer to the table. The improvement in control for any stroke was very apparent even during warm up. What I wasn't expecting was the difference in serve - the ball does not bounce as much from the blade, so at first all of my short serves were landing in the net and long serves were landing mid distance. That being said, I could put more energy into my serves and I was generating a lot more spin while still keeping the ball short. Pushes were also easy to keep short. Clocking in at 193g, this setup was 10g heavier than my viscaria. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, the handle is a bit thinner, but some grip tape did compensate for that nicely. I am hoping to build more confidence and consistency in my attack since I can play looser and put more energy into the ball without fear of it flying out. Overall, I like this setup and would recommend it for any offensive player looking to get more control and quality on their shots.
My favorite blade so far. Played with Jun Mizutani ZLC, Darker Imperial and Darker Speed 90. Jun Mizutani ZLC was two fast for me, it's amazing for loops especially far from table but too hard to control for me, it's not forgiving at all. I like the feel of Darker's 1-ply hinoki blades but they are too brittle, I accidentally broke two of them and then they were out of stock, so I started looking for a replacement that would have a good control and suite for looping. The main contender was Viscaria, I played with 3 different blades that people use in our club and all 3 of them were very different (with the same T05 rubber), only one was good to my taste. Then I borrowed spare Petr Korbel from my friend and I quickly realized that it would be a perfect choice for me. So I ordered one and don't regret it. It was hard to find an ST version of it. I should note that even though I usually play with ST Korbel flared handle seems to be better balanced in terms of handle/head weight. I play with T05 FH and T19 BH, best blade so far.
This is my first custom blade and I am very satisfied with it. I've paired it with r7/r7soft max sponge and my first impressions have been that it is head heavy and noticeably thick. When I've started playing with it I have immediately got used to it. Exceptional feel, control and consistency which has given me the confidence to practice and perform loops and heavy topspins. It has helped me progress a lot. Now I've paired it with rz/rx max sponge and I really enjoy this combination as I can use my power to generate speed and spin. Great quality for the price(mine was 44 euros).
I played for several years with my trusty Primorac OFF- blade but decided to upgrade to something a little faster. Went for the Japanese Korbel OFF blade. I specifically opted for a lighter blade, as I like the agility and control it provides over sheer power. My Korbel is 85.8 grams with Tenergy 05 FX 2.1 on both sides. At first I though I made a huge mistake - it sounded a bit hollow and I felt some vibrations through the handle. My Primorac is an old one - from the early 2000s, a European version, I guess I got lucky with that blade.
However, after two sessions I got accustomed to the Kobel and now think it's a superior blade. Yeah, it does sound a bit hollow, but it's faster and offers more control. All in all, very solid blade. Bear in mind that Japanese Korbels have smaller handles and larger heads, and tend to be head-heavy. If you want a faster Korbel, opt for a 90+ gram blade, as the wood is denser and stiffer.

Ordered several new and different type/brands of blades for family to try. We are a household of up to intermediate players. Everyone wants to use the Korbel, and I never get to play with it. So I ordered a 2nd one and use it a bunch. There's a reason the Korbel is a classic.
With the advent of the new plastic ball I think the Korbel is the new Primorac blade. A great blade for allround play with speed. FL handle is small but comfortable. Head size is a bit larger than most and can be head heavy with thick rubbers. The look of this blade is classic. Not to fast and not slow this blade would be a good choice for a wide range of players. Price is lower than Primorac. For Tenergy users 1.9mm thickness is a good choice to reduce weight on the Korbel. A very good pick for allround offensive style. Update: With Butterfly Rozena this is the smoothest combination I have ever tested. All the gears are there with no surprises regardless of stroke used. It can be gentle with a lot of feeling for the short game or very powerful and fast on offense. One of the best all wood blades a player can choose.

Played with the Primorac for 2 years and bought this one together with the TBS (couldn't resist to buy both these legendary blades). After some testing to compare these blades, I decided to go for the korbel. It's just better for an attacking style than the primorac if you are not a beginner anymore and still maintaining reasonable good control for pushing. The primorac has slightly better control but is also slightly slower for attacking. So pushing is just a bit more difficult with the korbel. All other things are amazingly better. Once I'm good enough that pusing is 5% or less of my game, I'll go for the TBS. It is again slightly faster but pushing is not it's strength by far. attacking strokes on the other hand are simply breath taking.
Flared handle is way to thin for my liking, and I don't have "big hands". From wrist crease to middle fingertip on me is only 7.25" (18.5cm).

This is a very good blade for looping. I used it with tenergy 05 1.9mm rubbers and with xiom vega europe max rubbers. The topspin was incredible with these lasts, looping is very good even from higher distances from the table. Short game, blocks and smash is o.k but for this kind of play there are better blades. It could be a bit harder imo. Maybe with koto outer plies would be this blade better.
My blade is marked "made in Japan" and is 5.9 mm thick. It is paired with Xiom Omega lV Pro 2 mm both sides. I am a 2 wing all round controlled attacker. The bat sits comfortably in my hand from the moment I handled it. I can feel the position of ball contact during play. This feedback helps me to do any necessary correction. The Limba outer ply gives a certain feeling and dwell time which aids spin production. Shots are accurate in strength, length and placement. I get what I put in; no sudden, weird power surge. With consistency comes confidence!
The "throw angle" suits my game and fewer shots are dumped into the net, even on flat hits.
It is good on pushes, stable on blocks , good at flicks, excellent for loops, drives and smashes. At my amateur club level, the power is more than sufficient, even away from the table.

Mine Butterfly Korbel is 85g (today you can find it in a range from 80 to 90g and it's produced in Hungary). It's a great blade, classic! I haven't known that so many today's professional players still playing with it (Gionis, Shibaev, Kallberg,..). Its composition is like old classic Stigas, 5-plys, limba-limba-ayous-limba-limba, around 6mm thickness. Beautiful feeling, comparable with DHS PG-7, but as it is 5-ply, dwell is even better and better control, a bit more stable with slightly less speed. High throw blade, great for looping and good for short game incl. serves. But the feeling is important for me, together with PG7 , the best feeling I have ever tried! If you search for loopers blade with euro/jap tensor rubbers on it, you can stop your search! If you are an amateur offensive spin player, you do not need a better blade.

My friend gave me an old korbel paddle when I started to play ping pong a couple of years back. DHS Hurricane3 FH and 729 BH, I was so amazed that it was working beautifully well. Good speed and control. A little weak for away from table returns but that could be because the paddle was old. Anyway, this paddle would fit in the category of ALL to OFF-.
Alright i have recently found my new blade. for this review i will tell you bout my findings about it when it is paired with almana 2.0 on my forehand and sriver g2 1.7mm on my back hand.
First off this blade is beautiful right from the start, it is everything i had hoped for and more.The only thing that i have found to complain about is the handle which is too small for my hand but then again my hand is 8 inches long from the bottom of my hand to the top of my middle finger so you measure it...
alright back to the review the weight of the blade is more towards the head which i have balanced out with grip tape.
This blade to me is one of the all time greatest blades and also a benchmark blade which most other blades can be based upon. This blade is resonably fast and has great control when paired with rubbers that have a good arc. it is great for looping from mid distance and blocking as well. it has a standard sized head. The handle wood is a little delicate if grip tape that is extra sticky is put onto it which shouldnt be done lol(i learned the hard way) my petr korbel blade is about 4 or 5 years old and is in great condition. This blade is suitable for begginer- intermediate all the way up to the professional level. This blade has a medium throw on its own. So if your looking for a great blade that can take you all the way to the top the petr korbel is surely not going to fail you.

Its a good blade with great feel, you can control the ball very well with it and can produce spin easily when attacking. However, one thing I've noticed is that it does not pair well with harder rubbers, it becomes uncontrollable and hard to attack consistently. Speed is average, nothing too crazy.
Intermediate level blade. All rounder. Haven’t used it for any tournaments. But mainly it depends on technique.

Butterfly Korbel Japan ! an excellent base for fast and control universal play. The FL handle is very comfortable. The head size is slightly larger than most and can be heavy due to the heavy rubber - I played blade for 2 years with a Tenergy 05FX-2.1. The look of this blade is classic, not super fast but not slow either, this blade will be a good choice for a wide range of ALL+,off- players. Price 90 euro. For Tenergy users, 2.1mm thickness is a good choice. A very good choice for a versatile attacking style.
Truly liked this paddle, although the mistake was on my end, I wasn't aware of the difference between a straight and flared paddle, and ended up getting straight. If I can redo it I would get the flared, other than that, amazing feel and control, this paddle really has the forgiveness, on the table, when you make a mistake.
Slow blade with great feel. Favours the players who have a looping game from mid to long distance. The shot quality is slow, so make sure to imply more spin and prepare for a long rally. Hard rubbers are recommended for this blade and very manageable for beginners and elderlies with poor footwork.
Only playing 6 months but attempting reasonable technique.tried very fast blades which are great away from table but i felt difficult short.tried slower blades,good short but weak away.the korbel is nice middle ground,power and touch.felt good staight away.use tynergy 05 and best set up so far.
I love this blade, first i tried cheaper blade from andro,yasaka etc... But i tried this blade from my friend and he is using korbel blade, i fall in love to this.So i bought it. Its very controlable, actually realy fast, consistency is awesome. Im using with rasanter r37 and r42(2mm. both). My blade weight is 83gr, so dont realy heavy. My combo is 173gr. I prefer control against speed, i can made speed with my hand.
Great blade classic blade. Excels on topspins and looping. Sweetspot is not huge but still good. The speed is good my one is 92g good quality product for the money.
very balanced chassis, great for both the attack and for the block, classic features, good elasticity and good speed, not to mention control. I am using it with a XIOM Omega asia V max forehand and a backhand Donic Acuda p2 max and I think I trovatoun excellent balance. In total racket that manages to be complete without shadows.
After a two and a half year search for a new blade, this all-wood one outperformed all the others for me. Suitable for the spin-focussed attacker who needs dwell time on the blade to maximise loop spin and placement. Beautiful feel on short game.

Classic Blade. Nice Blade one of the best blade and cheap blade having both speed and control. It can be used with OFF and OFF+ Rubbers
Love this blade at the moment. The handle is thinner than most blades and this is very noticeable, but (I think) easier and more comfortable to play with. I use this blade with Joola Energy x-soft 2.0 on both sides and can't seem to find any fault with it. Also, the feel is great on both short touches and long drives or loops. For an offensive blade, chopping is reasonably controlled too.
Great classic well known wooden blade. Cheap. Nice structure. Best for close to table attack. Fast for power looping. Good feel and control. Very comfortable straight handle. Little head heavy but still acceptable.
The good old classic, the benchmark of blades, the Butterfly Korbel OFF. Construction: Limba-Limba-Ayous-Limba-Limba It is an excellent offensive blade with very good speed and touch. It is average in almost all aspects, which is the reason why I recommend it to newer players, as well as to all-around and offensive styles. First, the build quality is fantastic, like many other premium Japanese made BTY blades. In terms of playability, the blade has medium speed and a high level of control. It is also slightly stiff, and has a medium feel (between soft and hard). The weight is on the heavy side, usually in the range of 90-to-95-grams, and the balance is shifted towards the head. The blade also has a solid wood feel. Some complain about the slim handle of the Korbel, although I find it easy to adjust to; the aesthetics of the handle have a very traditional look, truly artful and beautiful in my opinion. Rubbers: for beginners, classic rubbers will suffice, and for advanced players, tensors and new generation rubbers work well on this versatile blade. However, I personally hated Tenergy 05 on this blade, because 5-ply wood is not stable enough (not enough stiffness nor hardness). The price has increased for this blade, but I still recommend it to everyone to try. The Korbel OFF can do it all; suitable for all levels...beginner, amateur, and pros alike!
First of all, $50 for a Butterfly blade used by many top players is a steal, so definitely a 5 on Value. The first rubbers I put on mine were 729-2 Leopard (with German sponge). I found these rubbers too slow, and not linear in response - when trying to play "touch" shots, the ball seemed to die on the rubber. I quickly replaced them with regular Sriver on FH and Sriver EL on backhand. This made a huge difference - I now had a set up that was strong for outright hitting, looping, and pushing (this was without speed glue, which I've never used). I'm totally sold on Sriver EL on the BH, but just replaced the FH with Nittaku Hammond, because I wanted more speed on my smashes. The performance of the blade is excellent in all departments, but especially looping. While fast enough to be classified OFF, the dwell time allows a lot of spin to be imparted with the right rubber. My one reservation is with the weight. I wish it were 5g or so lighter, but this is only a minor quibble (and I used a Tibhar Samsonov Alpha before getting the Korbel, so I was a bit spoiled regarding weight). Overall, a great blade, especially for the money, and as many have said, a looper's dream!
Great OFF- blade. Its very similar to Primorac OFF- but this one is a bit harder and stiffer. It still has plenty of control balanced with speed for an attacking/allaround game. Very comfortable handle in ST, a bit heavy but easy to get used to (around 95g).
A very good rubber for a begginer who wishes to have good conrtol of the ball and pretty good spins too.

Right behind the bottom of Off+ category. For a bit sacrifice in speed, you'll receive a tremendous amount of control. The blade is relatively stiff due to the hard and deeply pressed handle, however the dwell time is still long enough due to the thinness. The thinness contributing with the heavy head make this blade a series killer by topspin strokes. More control than Clipper, better performance in topspin than Clipper, just not as nice as Clipper's feeling and handle.
Very reliable blade for since few years. I used this blade for 3 years and enjoyed the control on the ball. Suitable for medium and fast rubbers. Good grip and convenient for both FH & BH

This is a great firt offensive blade, its fast but not too fast and has reasonable touch and control for precision shots and serves. Its not heavy or light, great for looping, prety goo driving too. choping seems to pop up a bit but if you wana chop why buy an offensive blade.
Beautiful blade (the Japanese version). I am an intermediate amateur attacking player and this blade is perfect balance between offence, control and good spin. I had Maze Optimal Performance, Timo Boll CAF before and I almost didnt need to adjust to this blade. It has everything you need and a nice wood feel, I can feel the ball when I am topspinning it.
It is like the Primorac but with a lot less vibrations and a sharper feeling. It got more power than the Primorac. Throw angle and spin feel pretty much the same as on the Primorac. Overall a great blade and a fitting upgrade for the Primorac.
Great classic blade! By today's standards, I consider it off-. A very good quality. I noticed a slight difference between the versions made in Europe and Japan. The Japanese blade is slightly faster and better finished. The blade gives you maximum control, you feel every ball. I use nittaku fastarc g1 on FH and donic Baracuda on BH, this command is perfect for me. Short game, spin, block - very good! If you do not have enough speed, it can be fixed with the right rubber. I think that now you can find an alternative cheaper, but if you need a high-quality, versatile blade - take petr korbel!

I would rate this wood as off-, I used it in jttaa 88gm FL version, very nice, a lot of control, but the quality is the same in other brands thibar, yasaka, nittaku for lower price, if you need a 5 layer wood fast, good feeling You can see YEO and the stiga infinity vps, they are faster, the handle is more comfortable than the small korbel, the speed of this wood felt very similar to yasaka sweden extra all + but more rigid and less sensation, it is only my personal opinion , the korbel has a low angle, it would work well with high angle rubbers like T05 or nittaku G1.

Great blade for beginner - intermediate players. Started using it when I picked up table tennis after 10 years. Paired it with H8 and Tin arc 5. Good all round, nothing stands out. I do find the handle being too small, maybe because it's the euro version.
i use this on my school team with andro rocket had and butterfly sriver el preety good at defencing
This blade is quite fast, but lacks a bit of consistency. That´s why it's sometimes hard to loop without feeling that it flexes more than usual. If you want a faster blade with more consistncy, try the Primorac Carbon.
Very average blade. Slim handle and very head heavy. Better off with Stiga or DHS.
One of the classic wooden ply offensive blades. Perfect for power looping and blocking. Also one of the cheaper blades on the market.
