In Airoc Astro, STIGA has multiplied the amount of microscopic air bubbles (Oxygen Capsule System) in the sponge, creating more intense catapult effect and speed. The new topsheet transfers energy between sponge and ball, providing every stroke with precision and power. Developed with members of the Chinese National Team to take advantage of the new Poly Ball. Airoc Astro S is the soft sponge version. Sponge Hardness: Soft Rubber FAQ and Guide - what you need to know when buying rubber sheets. Compare rubber ratings - compare ratings to other sheets.

Reviews of Stiga Airoc Astro S (7)
Not used this rubber for long, however I agree re ratings on speed and spin but less on control, which I'm finding difficult. Hopefully as I get used to this rubber this will get better. Am using 1.9 on F/H and find it excellent for spin serves, counter hitting and blocking. Like this rubber for the new plastic ball and can generate good top and sidespin when looping.
I use this as my FH rubber on the Stiga Carbonado 290, paired with Stiga Mantra S on my BH (both 1.9mm thickness). This rubber is awesome. Great speed, excellent control and top-notch spin. The build quality is superb and the blue, high density sponge gives a good feeling when brushed on the plastic ball.
I don't usually take the time to review rubbers, but this one is unique. It's variation in speed is outstanding. While Smashing or driving the ball this is one of the fastest rubbers I've used. Yet, pushing against my opponent, I could easily get double, even triple bounces. Looping and blocking were my favorite strokes to perform with this rubber. Blocking came pretty easy, I even had some miracle blocks against smashes. When looping, the arc is medium to high depending on your approach angle and the spin is pretty strong. I used this rubber atop my Freitas ALC which is hard but with some flex, so the dwell time seemed long. And who could forget the sound when the rubber catapults the ball over the net? "Tock!!"
Got it in 1.9 on a infinity vps 5. Its a spin rubber that has precise control, and ok speed. The medium soft sponge is great at spin kills, and loop smashes, but lacks in speed (not as much catapult feel as the calibra sponge). Also great for big BH shots and counter attacks instead of blocking. The lifespan of tacky top sheet is disappointing, it only last a couple of weeks. (Harder or carbon blades would sync up great, to get power in FH). Serves=great / spins=great / control=great / killshots=great / blocks & pushes=ok / speed=ok / dies=quick
rubber is definitely for plastic ball, it does not girp the old celluloid ball. it is best rubber for plastic ball both for backhand and forehand. control is awesome. it is made for the players who wants more feel it provides more feel than other rubbers, sound is very different.
