| Zoran, in fact i played with grubba carbon for some time. although this is the only slow carbon blade i have tried and therefore could mean nothing by itself, i got the impression that this could be generalized to all slower carbon blades. it seemed that the main advantage of slower blades disapperared by introducing carbon. although consistent, this blade (i suppose due to the poor dwell time) killed the spin on different speed levels. if i was using chinese sticky rubber this might not be such a big problem, but with srivers (not speed glued) this was a major issue. it is my oppinion that on slower, quality wood blades consistency is not a problem. as for supposedly smaller sweet spot on wood blades, i did not find problem in my play with wood blades. directly compared, i find wood grubba all+ overall far better blade than grubba carbon all+. i say this because of another, psychological factor. just for the reason of new technology and because of the fact that top players use carbon blades, many players consider carbon top choice. it is in the human nature. so...(slow) carbon blades? increased sweet spot? yes. improved consistency? yes. greater control in terms of consistency? yes. weaker control in terms of more balls flying over the table? also yes. weaker spin and shorter dwell time (compared to same speed wood blade)? yes. the decison is on player, but facts must be known |
