I bought that rubber cutting blade aka a surgical scalpel. I did not have a lot of luck with it, but I an probably not using the right technique. Some sites mention scoring the sponge and then cutting the rubber. This just made a mess of the sponge. Perhaps using like a razor blade, as suggested by another poster would work after the cement is fully set.
