Dr. Neubauer Firewall Plus

Select handle type:

4.5/5

The Dr. Neubauer Firewall Plus is similar to the Firewall, but the first thing you will notice is the Firewall Plus does not have the shaking sound of the Firewall. This enhancement of Dr. Neubauer’s best-selling allround blade has a slightly modified plywood compostion and still offers an excellent control. Firewall Plus enables a dynamic offensive game with reversed rubbers or short pimples. The ball can be accelerated easily for both hitting and looping thanks to its balsa core.

This blade also offers a very good feeling for all passive strokes. It produces high spin reversal and fast attacking possibilities through aggressive pushing or lifting when used with long pimples.

Reviews of Dr. Neubauer Firewall Plus (12)

Bought it with materialspezialist spinfire short pimps on BH and yasaka rakza soft on FH (reverse penhold). Its very light 65g, but surpsingly bouncy. Its medium soft and not that spinny however, this is an ideal blade if you want to play mixed styles. Good at flicking, fantastic at punching, great at chopping. Because of the light design its easy to hanlde on blocking. The straight handle is a little bit thick but the balsa wood can easily be removed with sandpaper.

Translated from Spanish.

I have it in pen-hold version, the first thing you notice is how extremely light, fragile it looks, and thick, although the most notable is the small size of the blade, even smaller than the C-Pen (I have a Yasaka Double Face TO).
I use it with a Nittaku Moristo SP Max (FH) and DHS Skyline TG 3 orange sponge (BH) and it really works well, it has spectacular control both active and passive, in passive it returns the ball with a pleasant unpredictable movement and with a very flat angle. Hitting is easy from the forehand, although when hitting hard it hits "too hard" and you have to learn to control yourself, it was much easier with the DHS PG3, but that was the only better thing.
The backhand with the DHS is excellent, lots of effect and speed.
The wood is great, its thickness doesn't bother me, but I do complain about its small size.

I got my Firewall Plus C-Pen from TT11.I am LP OX player and I was curious why on tournaments I competed several players were using it.Never before I used any products from Dr.Neubauer.Quality was surprisingly good I liked the comfortable and elegant C-pen handle.Blade is quite thick 10mm is just ok to twiddle need small adjustments .Spin reversal is excellent ,well that was the main reason why I acquired this blade, very very good for OX LP.This blade is rated ALL but mine I have MX-P 50*(boosted)on the other side and is fast/powerfull and control need adjustment maybe a medium hard rubber will help or more boosting. It is true the blade is light and fragile but should not be a problem.Money well spent and If Reversal is what you are looking is hard to find a better blade.Update:Excellent is still my opinion but durability is the problem. The C-Pen handle broke off completly from the blade.Maybe just unlucky I could see the balsa center and looks very fragile.

Lightweight very thick balsa blade, makes sense mostly with long pips in OX
as the blocks go fast, low, and the spin is well reversed.
Hard to loop from the FH side - counters and blocks are fine but
if you are late to the ball and it starts descending and you
want to topspin it over the net, you'll have a hard time -
low dwell time, bouncy balsa.
Tried only classical rubber on FH (LKT Pro XP) and with it
control on pushes and serve return is good.

The blade is very light, soft and thick but it`s simultaneously stiff, bouncy and much faster than the producer quotes.
I don`t agree with a thesis that it works out for passive playing it`s a different kettle of fish than Barricade.
IMHO this one has been created for aggressive playing by backhand and forehand hitting.
If a huge control and keeping the ball on the table is your priority Firewall Plus is not a good choice for you.
Even if you apply a slow OX long pips, you must count with losing many points by own mistakes.
From the other side the big advantage is the blade allows you to win many points very easy thanks to subtle pushes and slices.
Thanks to its speed your opponent has little time to react so it provokes him for making unforced errors.
Firewall Plus matches well with OX Sauer & Troger long pips as well as short pips and hard sponge inverted rubber like Xiom Vega Pro.
The blade is unpredictable and it can be a lifeline to win a game against advanced player who is experienced in battles against long pips players.
