The standard teaching in China (according Playing Better PingPong video) is to use left push pushing down and left. Use a lot of side spin to overcome the heavy top spin if you are using the traditional left "push".

However, I like to use RPB. The nature "close" position is ideal for blocking heavy topspin.

If you are fast enough, you can even loop back or smash back.

Of course, great penholder pro can even step around, and receive the backhand topspin with forehand.
