I have just come home from playing in a tournament in (England). I played against at least 2 players who's bats were much to fast for there ability. Although they wouldn't agree to that.
In fast rallies they could use there weapon to its potential. With big blocks or counter hits or loops. What let them down was service returns and slower play, where technic is needed not raw power. I find these type of players very easy to beat.
I call it out of control power. when they are good they are blistering there shots come back at 100 miles/hour, although that does make them easier to block.
I would still recommend that any player who is improving and practising regularly should still be playing with allround blades and 1.7-1.9 sponge on a good quality top sheet. It doesn't matter which make. Butterfly/Yasaka/Tibhar/joola.
But learn the strokes and control first.
