I decided to write this review even though I haven't played with this blade for quite some time. I returned to TT after two and a half decades, three years ago, and I searched for Donic Appelgreen Allplay, which I used to play with as a youngster. I wanted a well-controlled blade for the attacking looping game, quite in line with Appelgreen's approach, which suited me too. As I did not find Appelgreen All in a nearby shop, I have chosen Allround Xiom as an option. I chose medium-hard or softer rubbers, too: TSP Ventus Spin and Andro Hexer Grip. For the purpose, it was a disaster. Used to have killer finishing topspins; I was just amazed seeing how the fast ball on my side flew like a slowed-down recording on the opponent's side. I was also quite surprised by how small the blade's sweet spot was. Definitely, the blade suited me well in terms of the feel of the ball. The ball's reflection in the palm was quite good, and the blade certainly has good control. It also felt pleasantly soft, but not too soft; quite as one expects from a 5-ply wooden blade. Definitely a very good blade for someone learning the techniques and wanting to develop them properly. But for a real contest, it's way too slow. I guess what pairing with very hard rubbers might do to its performance. Still, the very small sweet spot remains its big weakness. Just a few weeks ago, I had a chance to play with a blade for approximately the same group of players, Xiom Diva with Vega hybrid rubbers. Unlike Novus Allround, the Diva may be used in a real competition while maintaining as much control, but with a definitely greater sweet spot and more power.
Since this review is from a very particular point of view, I should mention my actual setup, which suits my game perfectly: Xiom Hayabusa ZL Pro and Jekyll & Hyde V 52.5 and C 55.
