In terms of a "smash," pips are generally considered better because you can hit through the oncoming spin.

The downside is it's harder to loop. It's harder to lift a lower ball and to put topspin on it to bring it back down.

So with pips, the tendency is to wait until you get a good look at a ball that's higher then the net. Then take a big forward swing and go right through the ball.

So it depends on how you want to play. But I can tell you this. Friendship pips are better than dhs pips.

Maybe go 1 side inverted and 1 pips and you can see the difference?
