side spin, clock-wise, I hit it at 9 O'clock position. and incoming spin counter clock wise, I hit the ball at 3 o'clock, and follow through. you can open (backspin) and close (topspin) the blade depend on your read of his serve.

so to hit 3O'clock, your blade face points to your left (right hander). to think about it, I seem to add spin to the shot, and not spin reverse as rolly suggested. I find I have less control attempting to reverse spin. maybe just me.

good luck. oh sometime be agrressive is better, because I tend to go spin and weak spin alternatively, just so that my friends don't get used to my strong spin serve.
