I'd have to opine that virtually any inverted sheet will generated more speed than pip-out ox. Most generate much, much more.

As far as wood goes, the softness/hardness is not really the driver for stiffness/strength. They sometimes correlate, but not always. Some relatively light and soft woods are very strong (spruce, birch, some pines and firs, etc.). Some very hard woods are fairly weak too (some maples for instance).

p.s. blade speed seems to be about half vodoo to me. Some relatively flexible blades feel pretty fast, some silly-stiff ones are dead...
