well pips with sponge is definitely way faster than OX pips and pips with sponge is in general faster than inverted with sponge at least within 3ft of the table. In a smashfest pips rubber would win but with any soft or hard sponge rubber the amount that the ball sinks in and dwells in the springy sponge the more spin and speed you will get. The reason people say hard rubbers are faster and yet bryce (relatively soft but actually medium-hard) is so much faster than hurricane 2 or 3 is because softer sponges make it easier to get the ball to sink in and thus release the full spin and speed potential. However, hard sponges are not just dead pieces of cardboard (well... some chinese products). The hard sponges are faster and spinnier if you hit it harder and hard enough so that the ball sinks into the sponge and then that will catapult the ball way faster than any softy joola mambo or fancy high tension rubbers
