I would think that is an illegal serve. I had played against this player that started off with a ball stationary in one corner (say backhand corner), then did a fake toss, and within a split of a second, switched to the forehand corner, tossed the ball up all in one motion and quickly served the ball. This to me is like serving when your opponent is not in a ready position.
