I regularly play with a group of 1600-2000+ rated players and it amazes me the abuse I see of service rules. One player in particular starts his service with a pre-service ritual cupping the ball moving it all around above the table. He then stops for a nano- second with the ball stationary in the palm of his hand, and throws it up legal from there. Is this a legal service? The ITTF rules just state that the service starts with the ball stationary in the palm of the freehand. It does not state how long it must be stationary and visible. He does it almost in continuous flow. It is very deceptive. You can only see the ball stationary for an instant (fraction of a second)before it is thrown up. I don't know whether to call him on this or not?
