Its much more difficult if the ball is kept very low. In order to generate top spin, you need to get momentum going upward, which is harder to do as the ball gets closer to the table. when I was taught how to do a underspin to topspin return, I was told to think about hitting the ball high/long. When the underspin ball hits your paddle, its going to want to go down. You have to adjust, and deliver a powerful hit, aiming just past the edge of the table. Your paddle should be relatively open when you do this, or you will have 0 chance of clearing the net. Its much better to go long than to go short. If the ball goes short, it means you got beat by the spin. If the ball goes long, it means you just gave it too much. |
