No, your equipment doesn't need changed, other than maybe dont glue at least the bh side and use it for return if possible.

I used to sit around and imagine the ball spinning different ways at different positions on the table, and think about how I want to attack it.

If you have to think about all that at the time of reception you're sunk to start with. There's barely enough time to recognize the spin and react. You have to already know how you're going to hit spin at any direction. Or at least be able to see a couple of quick options. (like i said, with or against spin)
