To confuse you further, you will have to choose between Chinese penhold and Japanese penhold.
If you want to use both sides, then perhaps it is better to choose Chinese penhold. And there are two types of Japanese penhold :square (said to be suitable for looping) and rounded square (said to be suitable for fast attack near the table). Personally I cannot tell the difference (I have both) but perhaps because I am not a pro.For Japanese penhold, I would recommend 1-ply hinoki wood which is very nice.
If you are offensive, Dawei Sprungfeder rubber is a very good alternative.
