countering spin (8)

Well, I don't think anyone mentioned it, but there are two types of sidespin... I personally love the oppurtunity to put heavy vertical sidespin on the ball. It doesnt move at all in the air.. but when it hits the table, it flies to the left or right. This is the type you see in a corkscrew serve (very effective when done deceptively). I think this thread is mostly about horizontal sidespin.. This should be easy to pick up, since this type of sidespin should be apparent by its motion. Horizontal sidespin will move with its spin direction while still in the air. If you loop it hard (or better yet curve loop it), the spin should indeed be nullified... This is not always easy to do though, since a lot of players will mix sidespin on their short underspin balls... If the ball is short, then you have to rely on either your racket angle, or counter spinning it... |
