well, it really depends on the speed and amount of spin imparted on the ball; but you can also use this as a defensive and safer measure to return the ball;just angle your racket when you apply the downspin to prevent the ball going sidewards in the direction of the applied opponent's spin.you can also move a little bit backwards to dissipate the opponent's spin and then loop it back.
