When you hit a forehand, do you have to move your thumb? From your description, it sounds like you are holding the bat incorrectly. Your thumb should not be on the rubber at all. This is a common mistake. I used to do it. My coach noticed it and told me it was wrong. It took months for me to correct it. Using your grip will hinder your ability to quickly transition from backhand to forehand, because you have to change your grip.
