Yes, remove the plastic sheets and swing away. You can clean the rubber with a damp sponge, then re-apply the plastic sheets when you are finished playing. Always re-apply the plastic sheets to prolong the life of the rubber.

The rubber is supposed to be slightly sticky. Don't ever use talcum powder to clean the rubber. You can clean it with a little soapy water every now and then.
