Rod, I'm going to have to agree with you here. As a guy who's repeatedly tried (and failed) to master LPs, I have absolute and total admiration for the good LP players. However, I still equate LP users with those who used to use sandpaer bats. Years ago in the little pissant tournaments I'd go to in North Texas, there'd always be a sandpaper guy or two who'd advance to the quarters or semis only to be destroyed by an invert who either was too overwhelmingly consistent with his looping or one who could alternate looping and chopping at will. These styles continue to haunt the top LP users today. I admire what they do, but their equipment choice becomes a disadvantage against the very top-level offensive players (or guys like Waldner who seem to be able to play any kind of game they want against just about anyone). |
