Play Down the Line

Written by John Leach

Too many players only practice Cross-court shots, which makes sense since the distance across the table is longer and it is easier to hit with a lot of body power behind the ball, but it is still far too predictable. Most players will be able to comfortably cover 50% of the table against shots from a player close to their level. A good down-the-line shot can give you back the advantage in a point, even if it is only used as an occasional change, and it will still make your opponent think twice before automatically trying to play from only one side of the table.
