Samsonov is European Champion

Boros/Steff win women's doubles

FiTeT Press Release

No doubt that Vladimir Samsonov is the king of the European Table Tennis Championships in Courmayeur which end today. The player from Belarus got the second golden medal, after the Men Team Event one, dominating in Men Single as well.
No story in the final against the German Torben Wosik: 4-0 the result (11-7, 12-10, 12-10, 11-3), the same of last Saturday’s semifinal vs. Timo Boll , number one in the world ranking.

Samsonov’s supremacy (he is European Champion again after five years, since his previous victory in Eindhoven in 1998) was absolutely evident in these Championships and his performance aroused the public’s admiration, that took the Champion from Belarus as its idol.

Courmayeur is a lucky place for Samsonov: here in 2001 he won the World Cup final.
Anyway the match of Wosik, 29 years-old, was honourable, even though he could not face his adversary’s strength as he did in the only precedent head to head, the one in the Dutch Open in 2001, where he lost 4-2.
