New Service Rule Clarifications

Download the AGM PowerPoint Presentation

In a statement on ITTF's website, ITTF President Adham Sharara said that the new service rule will be fully explained by the end of May. The package will include "exact detailed wording of the Service Rule accompanied by a visual explanation for clarity".

Dear Friends,

The ITTF's 2002 AGM, 5 April in Zagreb, confirmed the new Service Rule that was passed at the 2001 AGM in Osaka with some minor clarifications. As promised at the AGM, the ITTF will produce within the next 6 weeks (by the end of May 2002) the exact detailed wording of the Service Rule accompanied by a visual explanation for clarity.

The package will include the exact wording, the objective, the intent, and the interpretation of the new Service Rule that will come into effect on 1 September 2002.

In the meantime, you can download the Power point presentation that was presented at the AGM in Zagreb by clicking on the link below.

This presentation shows the "intent" of the new Service Rule. You will need the Power point software installed on your computer in order to see this presentation.

Sincerely,

Adham Sharara
President

New Rules
by Roger Bertrand on 6/7/2002 5:26:00 PM

Hi,

I am happy with the new rules as a whole, although I think the etta is right to let us play in local leagues in 21. The game would not survive at that level otherwise, given the age group of the league.

I like it when play to the best of 7 and why not of 9. The best of five is ridiculously too short! We would be left with nothing to watch. However, the best of five is OK, when there is no time to play, or to be used in some junior leagues.

Rules should encourage defensive players as well as attackers. Regulations on glue and thickness of rubbers and on blades should be introduced to give attackers and defensives players roughly the same chance. It is more watchable to see defensers than attackers in some instances. I must say that sometimes it is more interesting to watch two very good leages players than two two top class international players for that very reason. It is far too fast!!

Otherwise we may find ourselves back to square one, once again!!

If you are not too far and in Great Britain, why not organise friendlies with players of same standard.

Do not hesitate to emailme at

Thanks
