If youve got to the stage where youre considering buying a custom bat (separate blade and rubbers), youll probably find the vast range of rubber options bewildering... in which case I would highly recommend getting the Yasaka Mark V. Its a relatively fast rubber compared to those found on pre-made bats with great control and spin, which really allows you to go for every shot without fear of the ball flying off the end of the table. Ive been using it for a few years now and it still performs to the level it did when it was new so its highly durable and will serve you well. In summary, if its good enough for ma Lin (who used it to win multiple world titles), its good enough for an intermediate player. What I would NOT recommend is getting too fast a rubber when youre just starting out. The speed can make it very hard to control the ball and therefore you will likely become very tentative and find it difficult to play a full stroke.
