Xiom Vega Europe was a big surprise to me. After a long search Tenergy 25 was always my favourite, because it had wonderful allround capabilities on my Juic Kalinic. When B. raised the prices so extremely I said good bye. Not because I can`t afford it, especially since I play long pimples (Friendship 837 0,5mm) on one side and only need one of them at a time, but I kind of felt insulted by the B.-pricing strategy. So I took it down immediatly although it was still pretty new. First I switched back to cheap chinese rubbers and tested some tuning, because the pros do it all the time anyway but after reading what people play now I found out about the Vega Series. Since I´m a middle class player I thought I`d be a little bit careful for once and test the Vega Europe "although" it`s said to be the slowest. I actually thought I´d use the Vega Asia in the beginning, but now I´m very happy I gave the Vega Europe a chance and I am absolutely delighted! I do have the Impression it produces less spin, but one thing is for sure: my top-spins sink extremely deep after they hit the table. What is also amazing is the amount of gears Vega Europe has. It is really very good in the short game, although some people perceive it as too bouncy, but thats not true. What is true is that the harder you hit the ball, the stronger the catapult starts kicking in (but only so when one does not flat hit). So on slow balls like service return or on pushes it is very controlled and not as sensitive to incoming spin. When you smash the ball it is still fast enough to make the point, but also very controlled. But what is really amazing is when you do a fast topspin over the table. Then the ball accelerates so heavily that it gives me the impression it is even faster than a smash. I just used it playing against the best of my team members who knows I suck at smashing and even he was astonished by the speed of my attacks. For me that is perfect because I have a very spinny first top-spin and when people do block it I usually get the chance to kill it, but especially the long half high balls i get I´m not so good at scoring with. So here Vega Europe really compensates one of the big weaknesses of my game. It really makes my fh much faster. It is really very fast when you attack quickly but on the other hand it is also really very controlled when you do opening top-spins. For me as a twiddler that is also a very big advantage, because I do very often play top-spins with my backhand too but 9 out of 10 are very controlled and extremely spinny balls, so on my bh the Vega Europe really has this extra gear. You can really feel it grabs the ball no matter what kind of spin it has and gives you this moment to control it and instead of going over the table as it often happens on the bh cause it is so hard to believe how extremely closed the blade must be sometimes, the top-spins somehow find a way to sink deep enough to make it on the table. In a way the Vega Europe plays like two different inverted rubbers for me, because it really has these different gears, so that it really suits my bh and fh technique. This effect is especially well to be observed when I have chopped a ball from mid distance and my opponent pushes it into my bh so that the ball is already falling when I reach the table and can still play a really good top-spin.
Vega Europe is actually very good at everything but one has to get a feeling for the gears, cause sometimes you might hit the ball over the table because it has this strong catapult. I have used it 3 times now and on the second occasion in a competition and it worked perfectly straight away. Xiom Vega Europe is a very good inverted rubber that is extremely fast to be so controlled. It really improves the over all quality of my game, reduces mistakes in service return and speeding up my top-spins. The big window-effect is actually more than a marketing gag. It really works. Apart from all of these very postive effects i have to admit that I´ve also fallen in love with that very loud cracking sound. It`s louder than the medium soft Andro Roxon and more cracking and the rubber is also quite light.
I bought it in 2mm but I might try max some time, but for now I am very happy. It really is a great piece of hightech for an allround attacking player like me!
