Donic Xtreme
Although I haven't posted any reviews for quite a while, I have been on quite an EJ journey, and now have far too
many blades and rubbers than is sensible, but it's been fun.
This blade is one that deserves mention and review. 83gms flared, Battle 3 (38*),Gewo EL Pro superselect 48.
I bought this at an actual physical store (Rodneys Table Tennis) which had 3 examples to choose from,
77gm,83 gm,89 gm, so quite a variance in weight.I was sorely tempted by the 77gm one (I like light blades)
but purchased the middle weight which is still reasonably light. My blade seems to have a fairly neutral balance,
feels easy to maneuver, total weight 180 gms with grip tape (handle is smallish for my large hands). One of the things
that attracted me about this blade was the double limba layers (my favorite wood ply). Gives the blade a very
supple feel, flexible and not too hard,so that you don't feel the carbon much, but it's there, and aids you when you
start to increase your swing speed.Power delivery is linear/progressive and the blade doesn't feel excessively fast.
Blocking is great- easy to add power or spin, and can take the heat off an incoming powerloop if you so desire.
Feeling in hand is good for a carbon blade with slight vibrations. The hard carbon feel is nullified to a good degree by the limba layers,so you get a direct but soft feel. If I had to compare my blade with others I own,
probably the closest would be my Butterfly inner force ZLC. Same soft flexy springy feeling, but while the ZLC
may have a slightly better higher end,it is "twitchier" than the xtreme and more prone to lose a bit of control,
where as the xtreme is almost as fast but more stable and predictable, and really suits the modern topspin offensive
game.I also think the feeling of the xtreme is superior as well. At the moment,my Xtreme would be in the top 5 of the hundred + blades I own.Highly recommended!
