First, a little about me. I'm a senior player with a USATT rating of about 1500+ and have been playing since the early 80's. I prefer and am currently playing with inverted on both sides of my racket. Also, I am a two-winged spinner and hitter. My philosophy is spin everything you can. I play reasonably close to the table and only play away from the table when I'm forced to.
I put the Ultramax version of this rubber on a Donic Epox Power Allround balde. I also bought a sheet of the Andro Rasanter R45 Energy Cell Ultramax and put it on the backhand side so I could compare the two rubbers on the same blade.
Results: Well...I was quite surprised. The spin is absolutely fantastic! Control is ideal so pushes, open ups and serves are handled easily. Lots of punch to the rubber as well making smashes and drives a breeze. Looping is awesome putting many of my shots completely out of reach or going under someone's racket from the spin. I also found the high throw angle to suddenly bring the ball down onto the table when I thought it was going to be long even further surprising my opponent.
Final thoughts: With the Donic blade I could have easily used the R48 on both sides. Yes the R45 gives a little more control on the backhand side but the difference between these two rubbers just isn't that much. Both spin great! Also, the 48 degrees plays more like a medium to medium hard sponge hardness and not at all like the hard sponged Chinese rubbers that I've used in the recent past. I think once you get above 48 degrees you best have some really good stroke technique particularly if you plan to put the rubber on a blade with some kind of composite composition.
Give this rubber a try. Use Ultramax sponge without any fears. You'll be quite surprised!
