The most basic way of returning a side spin serve would be to block the ball with your racket at an angle of the spin rotation and push it over the net. A more advanced way of returning a side spin serve would be to either use a forehand block and then tilt your bat slightly so that a spin reversal is created against your opponent and you can suddenly change the angle of your return. The harder way would be to use your backhand flick by rotating your racket 180 degrees upside down and then twisting it back up relaly fast so that you get a counter spin against your opponent. This flick can be done to any part of the table and is a hard but good return to surprise your opponents. The easiest way would be to of course cut the ball directly underneath. If you can do it well enough, you can actually get the ball low over the net without it popping up. This also creates a spin reversal but is harder to read whether it's countering the spin of blocking the spin. Hope that helps. Chris.
