i would go with the 3 star balls they will bounce better and last longer practice balls tend to crack a lot more.As for side spin it does work for serving but the trick is you have to keep it low and close to the net like 6 to 12 inches if you go high they will smash it if you go long they will loop it you want them to reach for it.also try sidespin looping during play and yes the pros do that i saw that at one of the killerspin tourneys. good luck
