I would go with a well balanced rubber try butterfly sriver,yasaka mark v or stiga mendo. If you are more into spin try tackifire special soft, regular is too heavy or try stiga magna not as fast as advertised without speed glue or if cost is an issue try dhs hurricane 2. Stay with 1.9-2.1 sponge i would lean towards 1.9 for my first paddle.I would use same rubber on both sides to start out.
