In my opinion,there is no direct rule or specified distance of the body from the ball with regards to topspinning or looping,as long as you can get the right feel or the arm stroke of the loop,since there are instances that you will hit or return the ball in awkward positions.however,underspin balls should be hit when it is already on it's downward path so that the spin is already dissipated and max. lift of the ball can be generated.
