Sealing (either by lacquer, varnish, polyurethane or other) is meant to prevent splintering when we take off the rubber, and it is not connected with a specific brand. I use wood varnish, and I do it only one time and it will stay there forever, and to give some peace to my mind, I seal all my blades. It is true that some material is less prone to splintering, but I simply seal all.
