regular glue is just for glueing your rubber, not much (if any) effect on your rubber. Speedglue adds tension and softens the sponge so produces more spin, speed and control.
I am new to speed glue too, i find that it improves my game alot, but i also find that i get dependent on it, so it gets you 'addicted'I would still suggest speedglue though. I am using Fair Chack Light by butterfly
