the dwell time is the time the ball spends on the bat,a long dwell will stick to the bat creating lots of spin.The softer the sponge the more dwell as the ball can sink into the sponge.Yes its important in choosing ur rubber as if ur a looper u want a decent length dwell to create spin,if ur a power hitter u may want hard sponge for more punch in the shots,this will have less dwell.
