The stiffness and "hardness" depend primarily on where they put the carbon (& arylate to a lesser degree), the thickness of the carbon layer, and the overall thickness of the blade. Putting a thick layer of carbon near the face of the blade makes it stiffer. Putting it under a thick face sheet, several sheets, or in the middle will make it progressively less stiff. In general, the thicker overall the blade is, the stiffer... So, you can make a fairly soft carbon blade by making it thin, with a relatively thin layer of carbon near the blade center... |
