I did not see the semi finals regrettably . I am disapointed to learn of Mr Syeds' remarks , he was always an articulate advocate of table tennis , whenever I have heard him speak before he has been most informative. I did hear his commentary on the Germany/Belarus team event earlier in the competition , and he was better informed than his co commentator , whose enthusiasm far outweighed his knowledge.

He has written various articles for The Times , amongst others , which include his email address , so I see no problem in publishing it here . matthew@msyed.freeserve.co.uk.
