I've damaged several blades by smacking them into the side of the table on abortive chops or pushes. This usually results in a big dent in the side of the blade which separates the top plys from the middle ply which then get pulled off when I reglue the rubber. So actually I haven't had a blade last more than a year. However my coach has a blade, that he uses every day and which looks like it's 20 years old and still going strong. So I think there's no limit to how long the blade can last if you take care of it.
