I like to practice some of the things that are difficult to do with 1 ball, for example opening loop against underspin. When you have 1 ball only, after you hit the first loop the pace picks up so that you usually do not get to hit another loop against underspin. The quality of my opening loop often determines the outcome of the point. Another thing I like to practice when doing multiball is put always. If you have 1 ball only, what partner is going to want to repeatedly feed you "sitters" and then go retrieve the ball after you smash it past them. I often see players missing these easy shots because they rarely practice them. Back up to looping distance then have the machine or your partner feed you an easy sitter that you have to move your feet to get to. Step up and smack it at an angle so that your opponent can't even get near the ball.
