In general, 7ply will be stiffer and faster. 5ply will be more flexible and offer more feedback and control. The worst way you can spend $40 is to buy a name brand premade blade, esp butterfly. The chinese brands' premades are a little better. But if you can afford $40 a chinese combo will get you a lot more for your $.
