I'm not sure if a Newgy robot will be useful for beginners because of the heavy spin it puts on the ball. The spin is directly related to the speed and cannot be adjusted separately. The topspin kick off the table totally throws youngsters' timing when it comes to playing other people. If you have a suitable space you can close off, I found that a bucket of 100+ training balls works well - and is a lot cheaper than a robot. The coach (or partner) stands at one end and just keeps feeding the balls onto forehand or backhand to work on the appropriate shot. It just means a couple of minutes to pick them all up again every few minutes. I have a Newgy 2040, but my son still prefers training with me feeding the balls from the bucket because the spin and placement has more variation and is therefore a better simulation of a real match. |
