No, the Iolite blade is not necessarily for younger players. What made you come to this conclusion gk? I use the butterfly viscaria every so often and it posesses the Arylate Carbon system as the Iolite blade does so I know a little about the Iolite blade. The Iolite is a lot thicker than my viscaria and than most blades as a matter of fact the thickness of the Iolite is 7.2 mm. The thickness of my viscaria is 5.8mm. However the handle as you asked comes flared with the dimensions of 100x21. I would highly recommend this blade if you were considering buying it.
