supposedly the more sponge, the more speed and spin, but less control.
that's why starters use sponges of 1.9 or 1.5
and that's why some long pips players use no or little sponge in their long pips rubber.
because it gives them the control they need to return the ball to the table.
using 2.1 or 2.2 or 2.5 i guess depends on what the player likes.
it's not just what is more fast or more offensive.
for example petr korbel uses a pretty slow blade and is one of the best players anyway.
so it depends on the player
