er...1stly..who said that?and 2ndly i think that 3rd ball kill is not uncommon really, but it is an effective way to open up the game. i have not played a chopper before(i guess thats what you mean by defensive) so i'm not sure what to expect when he or she returns the 3rd ball. but mostly from me, its just a nice way to go into a higher gear in the game, not cos of any other view i have on playing defensive. if the ball were to be placed in a place where my forehand cant go(i'm a j-pen user) then i will push the ball back over.
