Most of the top shakehand players change their grip for service, by removing most (if not all) of their fingers from the handle to allow more wrist freedom and mobility, which can obviously generate more spin/deception. As for changing grip during rally play (like Timo Boll), this gives a more relaxed feel to the forearm and wrist which makes it easier to obtain more power. The index finger moves slightly towards the tip of the bat for forehand, and is horizontal for backhand strokes.
