Treat the sponge with a heavy coat of the JEE. Wait 48 hours for it to dry. If it is thicker sponge (>2.0mm) you probably want to apply another. The second coat will only take one day to dry. Then glue up the rubber.

After you try it, you will probably end up wanting real speed glue. That's what happened to me. It did add some benefit, but it just whetted my taste for the real thing.
