729 Cream on MRS sponge, 729 Faster, or Donic Coppa Tenero. All three produce more than adequate speed/spin/control without a drop of speedglue. I was told by several speedgluers that the Tenero would not play well without regluing, but that simply has not been the case. Tenero is a non-tacky Euro-Sino rubber that relies on its soft sponge to "enfold" and spin the ball. Cream and Faster are sticky topsheet Chinese rubbers that produce incredible spin even when the topsheet seems to dry out. I play almost everyday with my son's totally neglected Cream MRS sheets, and then I switch to one of my student's scrupulously cared for setups...and there is absolutely no difference. The Chinese stuff just plain plays and so does the Tenero.
