The 16th World University Table Tennis Championship which will take place in Maribor, Slovenia from July 4 to 9, 2006 will be a special event.

This is the first time a world university championship will be organised in Slovenia, and this is also the last time the world university championship in table tennis will be organised. Starting 2007, table tennis will be a part of the universiade sports, meaning that separate world university championships will no longer be organised.

The organising committee expects 140 participants from 30 countries to attend the event which will be not only interesting from the sport perspective, but also from social and cultural point of view.
