bending at the waist for forehand?

Hi All, I'm a relative beginner, been playing "seriously" for about four months. I'm on the tall side, 6' 2", and have noticed that bending at the waist really helps my backhand, I can really get down to the ball and hit it solidly with a lot of control and topspin if I bend. Standing straight up, it doesn't work. However, my forehand is better if I'm relatively straight, hitting it with a bend at the waist feels awkward. My problem is that I'm not sure what my ready position should be, bent at the waist expecting a backhand or straight expecting a forehand. I suspect I should be bent, but am not sure how the forehand mechanics work in this case. Any advice from taller players would be very welcome.
